The empty crate ended up being a boon, if not a boom.

Before we started off, Rhona took all her foraged items out of her inventory and arranged them neatly in the crate, then tucked the whole thing back into its pocket dimension—or whatever our inventory space actually was. I wasn’t about to hypothesise about quantum mechanics.

The kitten, thankfully, agreed to go back in the carrier, which I passed to Eilidh with some reluctance. I couldn’t figure out why I wanted the wee beastie with me, but handing her over was surprisingly difficult.

There was a chill in the air as we made our way south past the castle on its island and onward, following the southeastern shore of the loch.

The chill wasn’t out of character for February in Scotland, but something about it felt . . . wrong.

As the sun crept higher in the sky, obscured behind a blanket of low-hanging cloud that washed in from the west, I found myself triggering Connection almost constantly, eyes always moving. Every hair on my body seemed to be on high alert, and by the time we paused for lunch, my shoulders and neck ached so much with the tension that I had to stand still for ten minutes for my inherent healing to soothe it away.

The others didn’t seem quite as on edge.

While we polished off some of the food Mòrag had given us, I skimmed through my notifications.

There was a welcome boost to Stamina from the trek, but I was disappointed not to see another level up for Connection, considering how much I’d been using it.

I was, however, pleased by the quest update.
